Rosanne Koning, pschologist, spent 2 months with the girls at the end of last year.
Juana, 15, told her she wanted to be a journalist and so she interviewed Rosanne.
Juana has since left the hogar to go and live back with her father.
Here is the interview:-
What did you do in your time here with us in the home?
I have worked with three groups of girls. One group of small girls, and two groups of adolescents. Every week I gave them psychological trainings, about everyday things. How can you solve a disagreement? How can you give compliments to others? What can you do if you are feeling upset? The girls also practiced these things in their normal life in the home.
How did you relate to the girls?
The girls were very nice and friendly. We had a good time together. Sometimes they didn’t want to work, but when they came to trainings it always went well.
What did you teach the girls?
We talked about different themes. About their qualities, their goals, how they can resolve disagreements, how they can give compliments and other themes.
She also wrote a little bit about the home:
We all get along very well. Amongst the girls and also with the sisters, the educators, the social worker and the psychologist. The 24th of December will be a happy day here in the hogar, because we will celebrate Christmas here. The 25th we will go to our families and the 31st of December we will celebrate at home with our families. Our new year will hopefully be filled with joy and happiness.
